Has there been any discussion about the impact of billboard signs on development? Besides being butt-ugly and a blight on the urban landscape, they often can prevent development of adjacent property. I have been involved in negotiations with sign owners at points in the past, and it is always unpleasant. The signs are incredibly lucrative to the owners and the owners often try to get really long leases or even permanent easements for the signs, with attendant restrictions on sight corridors. I wonder if the signs on the west (south) side of Lamar at Bluebonnet are significantly impeding development of those lots, over and above the capitol view corridor problems that those lots have.
