MALAYSIA RAILWAY OPERATORS
FOR LONG DISTANCE JOURNEY

Peninsular Malaysia
1 - Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) (since 1885)
Metre Gauge: Operating 120-140 km/h
  • KTM West Coast Railway Line: KTM ETS
    Electrified Double Track
    • Padang Besar-Gemas - 755 KM (2021)
    • Gemas-Johor Bahru - 192 KM (2023) (under construction)
  • KTM East Coast Railway Line: KTM DMU
    Single Track
    • Tumpat-Gemas-Johor Bahru (2021)
      This train still run to Johor Bahru until 2023-2024 before KTM ETS extension project from Gemas will complete.

2 - Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL) - NEW
Standard Gauge: Operating 160 km/h
  • East Coast Rail Link (ECRL)
    Electrified Double Track
    • Kota Bharu-Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan Port-Port Klang - 650 KM (2026) (under construction)

Malaysian Borneo
3 - Jabatan Keretapi Negeri Sabah (JKNS) (since 1896)
Metre Gauge: Operating 80-100 km/h
  • Tanjung Aru-Tenom - 134 KM
    Single Track

4 - North Borneo Railway (Stream Locomotive)
Tourism Leisure Line Operated by Sutera Horbour Resort Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Integrated platform with JKNS
  • Tanjung Aru-Papar
    Single Track
