A homeless camp in a first world country should never be allowed to become that dangerous.
It becomes extremely dangerous when the country is still treating drug-use and addiction as health issues rather than a criminal one. Mild drugs do not make addicts violent, but I have a strong feeling that the toxin-laden fentanyl of today is turning some addicts into drug-crazed violent people, as can be seen more and more lately. Therefore authorities need to deal with this with a different angle now. Yet they are arresting criminals and then releasing them back into the streets, including those caught red-handed running drug labs downtown. Overdosed addicts are treated at the expense of tax payers and then released back into the streets as well. If hardcore addicts are not treated long-term in a rehab centre to rid themselves of addiction, there will always be a ready market for the criminals, and the violence that ensues.
