Building 4 instead of 6 is unfortunate and mostly political. Regardless, if you can't understand New West not wanting even more traffic (look at a map to see how New West already is a traffic pinch point in 4-6 different directions) you are missing the possibility for proper planning. The real problem for New West is not the bridge but the capacity of McBride. The ideal would be 6 lanes with Mcbride in a cut and cover to 10th, then a Burnaby connector to HWY1. New West Planning would support that, but the Stormont Connector (once a future priority) has fallen completely off the radar. So New West wants 4 lanes until something is done to improve the network on their side. Building 4 and a future 6 pacifies them, but also wastes funding and ultimate construction disruptions.
But it will be 4, expandable to 6 . . . time to get over it.
