I actually agree with this.
We need to plan for the future much better, this is literally about the only positive lesson we can take from China.
Build SkyTrain, build high speed rail out to the Valley, build infrastructure non stop. This is a sure win.
To bet on global Cities collapsing and losing population is to bet on the permanent collapse of the current socio-economic systems, its unlikely and even if it does happen, financial consideration of the infrastructure costs wont be important.
The road network this City still operates on is substantially the same since the 1950's. That's 70 years of non stop population growth.
That's not changing, our only option is to double down, then triple down on relentless public transportation upgrades. Ambitious ones - we don't need to debate for a decade on the merits of any of these upgrades.
The Millennium line went in when Brentwood and Lougheed were pipe dreams. Look where we are now.
The Canada Line is already at near capacity and seeking longer and reconfigured trains, that took 9 years.
We as a City need to start thinking longer term, and start thinking bigger.
We should welcome more money here, not less, but take that money and spread the benefits around for all to see.
The endless greed of the BC Liberals turned the public against money flows that could have built our City into a positive future for all.
