Highway 424 is still being studied if I recall correctly. It would likely parallel Highway 24, connecting a stretch of the 401 between Cambridge and Guelph with a stretch of the 403 between Brantford and Hamilton.
-That would give you a freeway link, but it's not very direct.

No recent news about it, quick google search gave me an article from 2009
