i've lived in a couple pretty tight neighborhoods where people communicate heavily on facebook neighborhood pages, help solve crimes, throw block parties, etc. granted, i live in a small rustbelt city where people tend towards tribes and old school tight knit urban catholicism, but i have to admit that i like having a sense of community, as granola as that sounds. i actually do the "suburban" talk over the fence thing, even though i live in the inner city.
the difference is that generally people dont get into your business in inner cities like they do in suburbs, so my involvement is by choice.
