This is kind of companies what Mangaluru need - GlobalLogic to set up innovation hubs in India for healthcare, banking. But....

------------------------------------------------------------------

"..We have also decided to expand the capacity of New Mangaluru Port with an investment of Rs 10,000 crore," Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari said. The capacity of the State’s all-weather New Mangalore Port Trust would be doubled at a cost of Rs. 10,000 crore.

This investment seems different than Rs.9,000 crores Shiradighat Tunnel connectivity to port.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday said ...... 100 acres for establishment of a centre of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) either in Mysuru or Mangaluru

A rare chance for Mangaluru politicians to use their tactics to get a first major research institute to coastal Karnataka. Land can be alloted at Mudipu itself along with Pharmaceutical Park. But to be on safer side show another site much nearer to airport also to delegates visiting to assess. Advantage of having NIPER at Mangaluru is that it can even focus on Marine Medicinal Research.

ICAR approves teaching Aquatic Medicine for BFSc at national level

Good that Mangaluru already has a college teaching "Aquatic Veterinary Medicine" to cure diseases of aquatic creatures. What Mangaluru needs is an institute (hopefully as a part of NIPER) for "Marine Medicine" (Marine pharmacognosy, Marine Drugs, 4, 5, Marine Pharmacology: Clinical Development) which is used for curing humans.

In the mean time CIPET has gone to Bengaluru. I was thinking that NIPER is an ambitious, CIPET is a practical wish. But.... yes, this one focuses on researches on all biotechnology subjects like bio-polymers, bio-nano, bio-sensors which are also biomedical engineering subjects. (Most probably it was my mistake to wish in a public forum that CIPET in Mangaluru should focus on medical devices. Otherwise Mangaluru would have got a normal CIPET at least.) Still Mangaluru can dream for a bigger Biomedical Engineering Education and Research Institute which also covers other advanced subjects of biomedical engineering.

Having one of best air connectivity in India with gulf countries which are base of hydrocarbon wealth and then Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals Complex makes Mangaluru best suited to be developed as Hydrocarbon Knowledge City with Hydrocarbon Skill Development Center & Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Petroleum Research. Due to good air connectivity Mangaluru can sell its Hydrocarbon Knowledge based products & services much easily in gulf countries. Mangaluru already provides good human resources services to gulf countries this can be further strengthened to provide high-end hydrocarbon engineering & industrial services to these countries.

Indian startups ready to embrace opportunities in UAE

Mangaluru should use this opportunity provided by UAE as it has better air connectivity & a working relationship. It should at least use the opportunity to attract some companies offering such services to use Mangaluru as base.

Centre calls for thrust to local electronics units since electronics was expected to be the largest import item in the country

Mangaluru has to utilize this opportunity to build Medical Electronics base. MIT-Manipal has Biomedical Engineering course, Nitte University offers BSc, MSc courses in Biomedical Science, we need more engineering colleges offering Biomedical Engineering courses with facilities for startups in diverse fields of Biomedical Engineering like bio-polymers, bio-nano, bio-sensors etc.

Mangaluru can also try to develop electronics istruments for petroleum & petrochemicals industries. NITK has STEP, MITE has Siemens Center of Excellence, similar centers of excellence are needed in other colleges to incubate industrial electronics startups.

KIOCL opened skill development centre in the fields of mining, iron and steel

Karnataka government will set up Biotech incubation centres at Dharwad, Belagavi, Bidar and Mangaluru besides take the signing of letter of intent between Bengaluru and Boston for the creation of a biotech corridor

------------------------------------------------------------------

Karnataka is promoting cities like Hubli-Dharwad, Mysore, Mangalore and Davangere to potential investors. But there have been few takers due to poor connectivity either by road or air.

Why Mangaluru's Air connectivity is bad? Who is projecting this? Mangaluru Airport ranks 12th in India handling 44 weekly International flights.

"Mysuru, Mangaluru and places such as Shivamogga are now what Bengaluru was 20 years back"

Mangaluru is much ahead of Bengaluru when it was 20 years back now in so many things like highest 36 floors building, so many international flights (& 12 flights daily to Bengaluru, did Bengaluru have 12 flights daily to any city 20 years back?), malls with all types of brands (did Bengaluru have any international brand available in any shop 20 years back?). Only thing in which Mangaluru still lacks behind 20 years old Bengaluru is R&D infrastructure. Unless R&D infrastructure is addressed Mangaluru will not become a fullfledged Knowledge City like Bengaluru.

Wondering whether Fox Petroleum Ltd investment Rs. 7,000 crores is for LNG terminal. Wait, they are also working on other things like Gaspipelines, Gas based power plants. However old news says Fox Petroleum plans to build FSRU LNG terminal in Karnataka, India. This one seems to be in Karwar. But since agreement with Mitsui for Mangaluru LNG Terminal is cancelled recently there is a chance that this project is to Mangaluru.

Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) is keen on taking half of the 1.5 million tonnes Mangalore facility
