Widening the bridge will not prevent or even reduce this kind of congestion. If the bridge is successful, it will make this congestion worse everywhere but on the bridge, and eventually the 10 lanes will be just as useless as 8 lanes. If the bridge is unsuccessful a la the Port Mann, the congestion elsewhere will stay the same and the tolls will not recoup the cost of the 10 lane build. Immediate widening is a lose lose.
