26-story mixed-use tower planned at Taylor & Fifth in downtown Fort Worth

Quote:
Jetta Operating Co., a 24-year-old privately held oil and gas company in Fort Worth, and a related entity plan a 26-story mixed-use tower downtown at Taylor and Fifth streets on a site once owned by the Star-Telegram.

Anthracite Realty Partners, owned by Greg Bird, president and owner of Jetta, is requesting approval of certain waivers from streetscape and building edge standards from the Downtown Design Review Board. The board will consider the case Thursday.

Anthracite last year bought the site at 640 Taylor Street from the Fort Worth Club, which had purchased it from the Star-Telegram, and confirmed it would build offices there. The site is now a parking lot, but once housed the newspaper’s Annex building.

Jetta will move its headquarters from the Fort Worth Club tower across the street into the new building, Catherine Severin, Jetta vice president of administration and corporate communications, said Monday in an interview.

City officials said the building will have parking, office, and two floors of residential at the top.

Severin said she couldn’t be more specific about plans, including the planned square footage of the building and how much of it Jetta will absorb, ahead of Thursday’s meeting. But she said the building will include Jetta, “tenants,” parking for them and the Fort Worth Club, and retail space.

Anthracite will develop the building, she said. Anthracite and Jetta confirmed last year that Bennett Benner Partners is the architect.
