Downtown Detroit was bursting with the energy of an awakened city Friday evening.
Tens of thousands of people waited in traffic jams for an Eminem concert at Comerica Park and a Lions preseason game at Ford Field. At Campus Martius, hundreds of people gathered for a jazz concert. New basketball courts installed this year were teeming with teenagers.
Two unrelated protests were held; a DJ pumped out music in Capitol Park; and people flocked to the waterfront.
