Ironically, even though I live across from Detroit, I haven't been to the states since 2003. That being said I can say I never found their freeways to be in bad shape. I actually liked the freeways over there as opposed to what we're used to in Windsor (yes I know smaller city). Most onramps are downhill and most offramps are uphill, makes sense to me, as opposed to some spots on Windsor's expressway that have you going up a steep incline while in an acceleration lane and at the same time making a blind spot for both you and drivers on the expressway. It gets interesting when someone is puttering up the Jefferson onramp, or a few other choice onramps in an old beater while trying to merge on EC Row.

If anything I'm guessing north42 was directing the comment on Detroit roads more towards the inner city roads. Just a guess, like I said, I haven't ventured over the bridge in 10 years.

Side note

This has always been my favorite exit sign in Detroit!
