I was surprised too. I figured the combination of empty land on the suburban fringe, annexation, low cost of living, and a steady, healthy economy would have been a recipe for stronger growth.
Maybe Omaha is seeing the same pattern as other cities of fringe growth yet a declining core. The Omaha city limits sprawl very far to the west, capturing a lot of suburbia, but the city east of 72nd St is considered the older, more urban part of town. I wonder what the population figures were for this core part of town.
