Great post jlousa. I'm also happy about the decision.

Another think that JLousa alluded to but didn't say outright is that Co-Ops are generally not only family friendly, but actually prefer them. Generally families are the ones that want a sense of community and security that co-ops offer.

The disadvantage is that Co-Ops aren't for everyone. Some people like to stay to themselves and don't want to know their neighbors. They don't like having to do mandatory volunteer work and they don't like the fact that everyone tends to know your business.

In most co-ops, you serve on a committee which is responsible for either landscaping, maintenance, membership or other things that are needed. I've always thought to myself that Co-Ops are "Small-scale communism that actually works".

But you bat the C word around and many people automatically think negatively.
