Admiral Semmes Hotel Purchased
Pressure washer and workers cleaning on Government Street last week were the first visible sign that the Admiral Semmes Hotel was purchased by the owner of the Holiday Inn, Ms. Mallick. The Admiral Semmes will undergo a multi-million dollar renovation similar to what the Holiday Inn went through a couple of years ago. The hotel will get a new flat; it will be dropping the Radisson brand. In addition to the cleaning, some needed deferred maintenance will be tended to. The hotel is also retraining the staff to improve the standards of service. The new owner also wants to restore the historic dignity to the hotel. The Admiral Semmes has 170 rooms and 7,000 SF of meeting space. Now, between both properties, the hotelier locally has 376 hotel rooms, 17,000 SF of meeting space and both hotels are full service with restaurants, lounges and banquet facilities.

Papillion - Vintage Retail
Papillion,a new vintage consignment store, opened July 23 at 9 S. Joachim Street. Located across Conti Street from 219, Papillion is described by owner Shar Begnaud, as "an eclectic assortment of mostly old stuff." Shar describes her merchandise as "stuff" because she doesn't want her visitors to take the antiques too seriously. She feels that the feedback is very positive and that young people especially appreciate her items, but do not want to be intimidated by going in "your parent's antique store." She gets her merchandise from salvage places, yard sales, estate sales, and even from the passing of acquaintances. Her hours are M-Th 10-6 and Sat 1-6 and also during special events such as Saenger events and the Farmer's market. For more information or to speak with Shar Begnaud call or email her at 405.5877 or Email Shar

Entre Arts, Island Thyme Eats & Arts, Devlin Wilson Studio & Gallery and Handmade in Alabama
453 Dauphin St. will soon be filled with new artists and great smells. The four new tenants include Entre Arts, Devlin Wilson Studio & Gallery, Handmade in Alabama, and Island Thyme Eats & Arts. Entre Arts is a shared office space environment for artists and entrepreneurs according to David Calametti, the program manager. Entre Arts simplifies the process of starting and growing entrepreneurial ventures. The project is similar to a commercial incubator with tiered business space and the tools and services needed for a professional office. Prospective tenants range from small non-profits, to consultants, to artists. The Devlin Wilson Studio & Gallery will also call 453 Dauphin St. home. Devlin's work is known around Mobile and having a studio and gallery in the heart of downtown will create new opportunities to interact with customers. Homemade in Alabama will feature crafts from artisans across the region and soon from across the state. Island Thyme Eats & Arts will add another wonderful restaurant to Dauphin Street. Previously at Government and Catherine streets, Island Thyme is known for its great sandwiches, wraps and wonderful art. For more information call David Calametti at 251.694.0457.
