The City of Saskatoon has released a Population Projections (2006-2026) report prepared by Hanna Crosby & Associates. Available
here.
A couple highlights:
- In a medium growth situation (20 year average annual growth rate of 1%), the City would reach a population of 257,178 by 2026 (and the CMA would be 303,444).
- In a high growth situation (2% growth rate), the City would reach 310,362 by 2026 (CMA population: 358,829).
- The projections use the 2006 population as its base. By their own calculations, in 2011, with medium growth the population would be 219,940, and with high growth the population would be 232,372. The June 30th population estimate released by the City estimates the current population at 223,200. So that puts us above the medium growth target for 2011 already and on the high growth path.
- To compare a little bit, Stats Can pegs the the city population (not metro) at 277,000 by 2030 in a high growth situation, and 248,000 in a low growth situation.

So, what do you guys think? Given a high growth situation could the Saskatoon CMA be nearly
360,000 people by 2026? That's 100,000 more people than there are in the metro today. Is that too high? Too low?
Do you have your own predictions?
