I just had lunch with my sister, her husband, and my father. They all live in Coquitlam and are excited about the eventual construction of the Evergreen line. They, like most residents of Greater Vancouver, don't follow news/discussion about transit projects nearly as closely as we do here on this forum. So this was a nice way of assessing the level of knowledge and insight of the average Vancouverite.
There was a consensus amongst them that "if they build it, we will use it." Combined, I would say that they--my sister has a family of five (three teenage girls), while my mother and father live in a different household a few blocks away north of Como Lake Road--use their cars for greater than 95% of all trips that they make. They decry the poor bus service in Coquitlam.
Interestingly, they noted--without my prompting--that the M-Line should be extended to Cambie in conjunction with the completion of the Evergreen line.
Is there any possibility whatsoever of this happening? Do the transit planners not also see how much more useful it would be to extend the M-Line to at least meet up with the Canada Line?
