Gramado & Canela -A trip to the Mountain Resorts of Southern Brazil
Gramado & Canela -A trip to the Mountain Resorts of Southern Brazil
Gramado is a small touristic town, in the southernmost Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, in the Serra Gaúcha region.
Most of the population of Gramado are of German or Italian descent. Gramado is one of the towns along the scenic
route known as Rota Romântica.(Romantic Route)
The city hosts the Festival de Gramado, a major South American film festival and Gramado's most important event.
It's also known by hydrangeas blossoming in late spring. Another key event in Gramado is Natal Luz, when
Gramado is decked out in lights for Christmas celebrations.
The city is famous for its chocolate and clothes/furniture shops, international restaurants and spa hotels.
Like sister town Gramado(8km away), Canela is an important mountain resort that draws thousands of tourists each year.
Ecoturism is very popular in the area and there are many opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding and
river rafting. The main tourist attraction in Canela is the famous
Parque do Caracol with the 131m waterfall at its centre.
Its stone cathedral is also famous.
Both cities atracts a large number of turists during winter when they can experience below freezing
temperatures and, occasionally, snow.
The pictures below where taken during a weekend in September.
Hope you all enjoy them.
