I understand that perspective, but it depends on the type.

Lithium-ion batteries are very good for digital cameras - much better than nickel-cadmium, and much more efficient than AAs.

I've specifically had a Lumix (one of the much more complicated ones that takes a lot more battery) for three years now and the li-ion battery is fantastic - it charges in less than an hour and lasts a long time.
