NBC's Today Show to broadcast from Grouse Mountain during Games
Olympic broadcaster NBC announced today it will broadcast its iconic Today show from Grouse Mountain during the 2010 Olympic Games.
The network said Today anchors Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira, Al Roker and Ann Curry will report from a "breathtaking" Grouse Mountain location overlooking Vancouver.
The show will broadcast live from 4 a.m to 8 a.m. Vancouver time during the course of the Games.
NBC said Today show fans are encouraged to visit Grouse Mountain every day to watch the live broadcast and get a chance to meet Olympic athletes and the show anchors.
The mountain will remain open 24 hours a day during the Games, offering snow sports and alpine recreation to all visitors.
Grouse Mountain was featured today when the network made the announcement on the Today show. The program also included interviews with Premier Gordon Campbell and VANOC chief executive officer John Furlong.
Grouse Mountain representative William Mbaho said the NBC decision gives the mountain a tremendous opportunity to showcase itself to the world.
"NBC was looking for a place with the most activity and the most exciting place to be in Vancouver and a place that had unbeatable views," he said. "There's a lot going on here and that was very attractive to NBC's producers."
