The bridge won't be expensive, just do a cable stayed bridge (seems to be the theme in Vancouver these days) with two concrete towers and a steel deck that doesn't really have to support too much weight, done and done.

People, this has been going on for 16 years. Every possible option has been examined and reexamined and rererereexamimed. If the politicians thought they could avoid the heat that they are getting from people that have not bothered to learn about the issue by building a new bridge, that is what they would be doing. To think that somehow you can figure out a workable solution that has not already been rejected is quite simply ridiculous.
For the 20th time, a new bike ped bridge is at least $50 million and probably $100 million by now. If you don't believe that, go ask an engineer. Even better, put together a team and approach the mayor to build it. Otherwise, please stay with realistic options that can be done now.
