False Creek to get Expo '86 pavilion deja-vu for 2010

Expo 86 deja vu for 2010

By BOB MACKIN, 24 HOURS

A corner of the old Expo 86 site may become Expo-like during the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Hockey Canada's Hockey House Live pavilion will be built near the Concord Pacific sales centre.

Concord Pacific vice-president of sales Grant Murray said provincial pavilions for Ontario, Quebec and Saskatchewan are expected to be neighbours.

Serda Evren of the Ontario tourism ministry's Olympic communications office said the Concord Pacific site is the only one being considered for a provincial pavilion.

A decision is anticipated in the next month.

"Other sites could pop up should our needs change," Evren said.

Janet Peters, communications director for Saskatchewan's tourism, parks, culture and sport ministry, would not comment during negotiations.

Nearby Science World is receiving $10.5 million in B.C. taxpayer-funded renovations and is talking with various parties, including broadcasters.

"It still continues to be our preference that we would be someone's home during that period, whether it be a sponsor, an organizing committee or an event," said Science World president and CEO Bryan Tisdall.
