Memorial Day weekend I was in Nashville for a friend's wedding. Here are some pictures of the central city. Part two, which I'll post tomorrow, will feature photos from the surrounding neighborhoods.
Oh, the Midwest...
These next few are from the state house and its grounds. It was incredibly surreal while we were there. It was uttely deserted because a powerful storm was brewing in the air. It was windy, but silent except for train whistles blowing every few minutes from some rail line in the distance. If I am ever going to film a disaster movie I intend to recreate those circumstances, because it was eerie.
This is the new downtown station for the Star commuter rail.
And finally, this is the historic Union Station. It's a hotel now. AFAIK no longer used as a functioning depot.
There was a time when southern cities were among the country's most beautiful. Now most traces of feminine charm have been destroyed. It's nice to see reminders like these.
Inside is gorgeous. Photos do not do it justice. The colors are much more vibrant in real life.
