Constructed in 1987, station platforms were just 30 metres long accommodating only 2-car trains but by 1992 they were extended to 60 metres to accomodate 4-car trains (as seen below in the picture), due to poor service caused by high ridership. The Canada Line has 40-50 metre platforms. Docklands is 31 kms long; Canada Line is 19 kms. Both rapid transit lines connect to airports, suburbs, and the region's metropolitan area. The Dockland vehicles however are smaller than the Canada Line's vehicles.

Sounds like we're heading for a little Docklands of our own. One of the reasons why this London system needed a platform expansion was because of development in London's Docklands......in Vancouver, that would be equivalent to development in Richmond, along the Richmond-Vancouver corridor, Downtown Vancouver, as well as increased employment and air travel at YVR.

btw, i love the new Docklands colour scheme. all red with blue swooshes. the Canada Line colour scheme...meh....not sure if blue/yellow/red swooshes would look good against grey.....and god no, especially if they include "Canada Line" in those big ugly letters.
I think it's important to remember that the Canada Line frequency will be much better than the Docklands Light-Rail. The routes on the DLR only run at around every 7-10 min during peaks and even with route overlapping that's still worse than what the Canada Line will be
