We went to San Diego and Orange County for our kids' spring break this past week. It was my first time in Southern California in over a decade. California (wrongly) gets is share of criticism but San Diego appeared to be booming and it looks like a lot of new housing is being built in Orange County.
We flew into San Diego and stayed there for three days and then took Amtrak to Irvine, where we took day trips to Disneyland and the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach (this is one of Southern California's best attractions that doesn't receive the attention it should).
We visited the zoo our first full day in San Diego.
We went to breakfast at Hash House A Go-Go in Hilcrest. We ate there on our previous visit to San Diego. The arteries got blasted!
We visited the La Jolla tidepools after brunch.
We went to the Padres - Giants game that evening. I think Petco Park, along with PNC Park, are two of the most beautiful stadiums.
We took the Surfliner to Irvine on Tuesday and enjoyed the local cuisine for dinner.
We went to the Aquarium of the Pacific on Thursday. Long Beach really seems like one of Southern California's best communities.
We met up with a friend of mine from elementary school at Ballast Point in the evening. We saw a pod of dolphin in the middle of Alamitos Bay when we were enjoying our beers.
