Why does the US have more office towers than Canada cities?

Office space very expensive due to the huge amount of parking required. That's why so many parking lots in US cities, and around suburban transit stations. In Canada, downtown office space has to compete more with residential. More people living downtown, more competition with offices. That land just more valuable in Canada, so they have to split some office function to the suburbs, especially as telecommunication technology improved.
