It's a combination of A) Surrey/Langley being the fastest-growing suburb with B) the most vocal swing ridings, C) no other rail links, and D) a lot of potential development.
Also, E) TransLink gets to take their SoF spoke-and-hub bus network that funnels everybody into Surrey Central and revamp it into a proper grid (KGB and Scott Road, running north to south only, don't do that for them).

What does Maple Ridge have going for them in comparison? I'm genuinely curious. If a Haney Place extension is going to be as long as the Langley City one, they'll need some really good arguments.
