Gallan95 over at SSC today posted this neat project by the UNM Foundation to build a 3-story, 23,500 sq ft facility for their use at Lomas and Yale across from the new UNM Hospital tower. The facility will be called the "Center for Philanthropy" It will go on an awkward and small plot of land directly north of the new Lobo Welcome Center.
Gallan95 in his post also linked to the foundation's RFP for a general contractor to build the project. It includes more renderings and floor plans for the proposed structure. The RFP has closed and submissions were due by March 7th. The notification of award for the RFP will be made on April 8th.
This is really awesome! What a great project to fill that awkward bit of empty land. I wish this would happen more often across the city. It's great in that it forces them to go up in height as well to fit everything onto the plot of land. It will be great to have Lomas develop a sort of canyon effect with taller buildings or buildings such as this that are built close to the street on eirher side. With the new medical school structure/s and the medical office building along Lomas as well, this feeling will just increase. Hopefully the plans for mixed-use structures along both sides of Lomas west of University Boulevard will get going sooner rather than later as well!
