A lot of Americans use the word liberal wrong to mean some form of left-centre social democracy. Trump is obviously very against this.


Trump doesn't fall under normal political ideology of left/right government/free market. He is pro-Trump and everything else is details.
You're confusing international politics with internal politics. He wants the US internally (ie. Everything within their borders) to be more liberal free enterprise than it has been in decades.

Internationally he is using tarriffs on other countries to protect America's internal free enterprise by correcting for other countries' intentionally devalued foreign currencies (among other things).

He is also using tarriffs and America's massive consumer market as leverage to make sure America is treated fairly in global markets (or what he perceives to be more fairly at least).
