A grade seperation makes too much sense, but this is Winnipeg, so they found a way to mess up the Kenaston/Sterling Lyon Intersection. Such a contrast to the QE2/23 Ave NW intersection in Edmonton.

It was remarkably similar to Winnipeg. A massive intersection, by South Edmonton Commons (where IKEA is). Edmonton had the good sense to redesign that interchange, making a diamond intersection, so that QE2 is free flowing, and traffic can exit on the off ramp to the shopping centre.

Unfortunately, Winnipeg has no planning comprehension since the 70s, so it;s either roundabouts, or nothing. On a related note, many highways are building roundabouts around the metro Edmonton area. The interchange between Highway 60 and 39 (which is SW of the city, and close to Leduc and Devon), has been built and works great.
