It should be noted that two of Sutherland's wives were accomplished actors in their own right. Shirley Douglas was a superlative actress, and Francine Racette played the mother in Louis Malle's all-time masterpiece Au Revoir Les Enfants. Racette also appeared with Sutherland in the mediocre 1977 Canadian thriller The Disappearance.
