Shape have changed the original plan quite a bit. For a start, they were allowed to include towers to 70 storeys, but only went to 56. They have changed the sequence of phases, which is why they're planning Tower 7, and haven't tried to build Tower 4. They initially showed the fabric roof retained, but then it was shown as a flat roof, and now there might be towers and how the mall might be reconfigured isn't completely clear.

In the meantime The City of Burnaby have also adopted new zoning bonus policies that allow higher densities in exchange for additional market, and non-market units, so a number of projects have been revisited for taller towers and greater density, including this one.

And in the future the new Provincial policies for density around transit means that most of those single family homes closest to the mall can be redeveloped, without a rezoning, at up to 8 storeys of residential.
