Next is currently recreating old Alinea menus, which is why it’s so expensive lately. And Alinea is in another league compared to most restaurants—I don’t think it’s right to think about it as “dinner” but rather an experience. People won’t really bat an eye if you tell them how much you spent seeing Hamilton or going to a Bears game, but a dinner that expensive is seen as an extravagance because we still often think about food in a very utilitarian way.
