I passed by the building today. There's a sign recruiting employees for a new place coming soon called Miel de Agave, which advertises itself in terms of food, bar, and live music. I guess predictions of this building's demise are premature.

I hope nothing is put on hold if we enter a recession. I remember about a decade ago when Bernie Kantak was supposed to open five restaurants at once as part of some vision for Jackson Street, just a few blocks from where this tower will be. That never happened, but I hope this will.

I also wonder what is meant by the wording "Italian coastal steakhouse." I would associate coastal Italy with all the seafood bounty of the Mediterranean, but marketing speak never ceases to amaze me with its attempts to be all things to all people.

I wouldn't read too much into this ... only the signature restaurant and cantina is sounding full service, and the others will have small kitchens if any, they're more bars with snacks. The hotel cannot open without a comprehensive food and beverage program, and you're seeing that in the works.

I vaguely remember those earlier plans, but back then the market wasn't really sure what to do with that Jackson St area especially for an ambitious venture... I think a lot of people were still thinking it would become some entertainment district. Only later on did the tech offices and corporate hotels start to come in, and these plans are in line with that.

Anyone know what is going on at the Starbucks on 7th Ave and Roosevelt? It’s closed and is being completely gutted inside, it looks like.

That's good news. Miel De Agave (previously Flor De Calabaza) is opening up by end of month so looks like that building will remain fully leased for the foreseeable future.

Interesting. I know the owners of Pomo have tried different concepts like "Meat the Ball" at Biltmore Fashion Park. That didn't work out, but it will be interesting to see what they have in mind for CityScape.

After driving by the new Breakfast Betch spot on Roosevelt last night, I suspect it might be in its soft opening stage. Screens were on and staff were milling around. The garage doors were rolled up and I thought I saw people watching the game. Looks like the corner space will be a sports bar while the Roosevelt frontage will be the restaurant we all have lukewarm experiences with.

We've all called for a sports bar to be in the corner spot so that's great to hear. Were you able to tell if the sports bar was fully part of Breakfast 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 or is it a separately-owned concept?

As dumb as FYPM is as a name, it's being used for a bar that appeals to and presumably allows only adults. That's entirely different from the name of a breakfast restaurant in a hotel that hosts guests of all ages and sensibilites.

I'll play along. So the name and restaurant is no longer an issue to you (or others) now that is no longer in the lobby of The Cambria? Fair enough...

I think it's a dumb name no matter where the restaurant is situated, but it's potentially more problematic for a hotel restaurant. It was never an issue for me in the sense of causing me to boycott the place. I've stayed away more due to the owner's criminal history, which seems to be ongoing rather than mistakes made in the past.

In other Roosevelt Row news, I stopped by Jobot earlier this week with the intention of ordering from their evening Thai-inspired menu. I was told it was no longer offered and that a new Filipino menu will be implemented in about two weeks. I can no longer keep up with all the changes at Jobot. It's always good, but the menu seems to change entirely every six months.
