Your letting your massive chip on your shoulder define you. It's fact that these highly popular, superficial ranking lists on the internet tend to place Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Calgary, etc. above Edmonton for most criteria and certainly international recognition and publicity was a factor to choose Toronto and Vancouver over Edmonton among other things.

I'm not saying this is fucking fair or agree in leaving out Edmonton.

What a maroon! And clearly. I hit oil when it comes to the truth of Canadian dynamics even in 2022!

Deny it all you want. Edmonton and Toronto aren't on level playing fields as far as the machine is concerned. Note: this has nothing to do with livability or quality of life although no doubt it will still be interpreted as such.

I'm getting the impression that Edmonton folk are a bit upset they weren't chosen.

It sounds like Vancouver is going to get 6 matches, and Edmonton to YVR is only an hour and a half. A trip to Vancouver to watch World Cup matches would be epic.

It's kinda like we got Edmonton's hopes up then we re-entered our bid and got our spot back. Would Edmonton be likely to get games if BC never pulled out initially?
They did a good job hosting the Iceteca game and have a better stadium than Toronto.

Seems like bullcrap to me Edmonton gets shunned.
Should have been given 3 games based on past history and a facility like Commonwealth.
Mexico went with 3 hosts.

Saved us millions of $$ on some half-assed, junior partner hosting debasement.

I honestly don't understand - we're obviously being treated like 2nd class clowns with our b.s. preliminary matches yet we're lapping it up like we're kings!

I just don't understand why people don't see this as the clown show that it is.

I've been perusing the internet for information on which matches Canada will actually get and I found this at http://www.2026worldcupnorthamerica....p-soccer-2026/

Quote:
During the 2026 FIFA World Cup, there will be three round-robin matches in the group stage in one day, according to what the organization envisions. The schedule is currently still in draft form and is therefore still partly subject to change. The winning BID United of the host countries, the USA, Canada and Mexico, includes a subdivision of 60 matches in the United States, 10 matches in Canada, and 10 matches in Mexico. In the BID, it has been proposed that 7 group matches, 2 round of 32 and one round of 16 will take place in both Canada and Mexico. This ‘results’ in 34 group matches, 12 round of 32, 6 round of 16, 4 quarterfinals, both semifinals, the third-place playoff, and the final match being played in the US.
Given that BMO has a smaller capacity and simply doesn't look at all world class, you gotta think that Vancouver will get that round of 16 match. That's a good deal for Vancouver because there are only 8 round of 16 matches, so a lot of cities won't host one.

There's also been some media reports stating Vancouver will get 6 matches, so it looks like it we would get 4 group matches, 1 round of 32, and 1 round of 16. Sounds good to me.

Another city adds a minimum of $200 million to the budget.

I'm not sure Montreal would have gotten any matches either.

With a commitment to renovate the Big O,
Montreal would have gotten games for sure.

Big if true, and much better than 6 group stage games.

Be careful to what you wish for, feed the Big O enough and it will turn into a black hole and swallow Montreal up!

LOL Money is a universal issue whether it's the cost of having three host cities and/or the top two cities balking at splitting the number of games with a third cities for the same pricetag.

BC Place is a renovated architectural statement surrounded by futuristic towers. That's not Commonwealth. It's as utilitarian as BMO Field with a boring setting. It's just bigger and this is a mens world cup.

The BC Government says the games in Vancouver will cost about $260M. We'll see what the final budget is (hopefully), and who actually foots the bill.

Rumours of France's Ligue 1 club Clermont Foot 63 (aka Clermont) being in talks (for several months) with CF Montreal's Zachary Brault-Guillard.
