With a name like that I'd halfway expect it to be in North Texas or something, even with the road being right there.

The Orange is still clearly visible in the first rendering of the link above. All the vertical elements of the lowers section are shown in orange. I assume, given the mock-ups on site with orange, that orange will carry through to the upper sections as well. We will have to wait and see. I too am excited to see this tower with these colors begin construction...in May, probably!

The Austin American-Statesman has a paywalled article about it today.

They're not too sure about the tallness from the headline.

Planned 74-story tower would be Austin's tallest -- maybe tallest in Texas

This may be the reason for the construction start ROW closure being pushed to 5/14. There is another ROW closure for the same Red River ROW for Google fiber installation until 5/11:

Congrats on the famous 'shop, Studioinnovatus. It's sweeping the nation!

The one I'd REALLY like to see is one looking north and getting both the new Rainey stuff and all the Western Parcels in the shot -- with the Conrad and the Spoonbill dropped in for good measure. That whole half of town is going to be unrecognizable in short order.

And farther out, there is still Block 190. I can also envision Camden Rainey getting demo'ed for two or three towers as it was originally proposed as Rainey Gateway.

Yeah, I've been wondering for awhile now when we'll start to see newer low-rise buildings start to pop. Camden Rainey's probably a great target because, as you say, you could fit multiple towers on that footprint.

I've been wondering about the Silicon Labs buildings since I moved here in 2016. They seem primed to go tall (unless there's a zoning limitation I'm unaware of).

Those sites can't go tall because of the can't throw shade on City Hall zoning.

Ha! I did wonder for a hot second whether the City Council had its own view corridors . . . .

Not quite. They actually altered the North Shore Central subdistrict of the Waterfront Overlay to build those buildings. The NSC requires a 70 degree setback angle above a basewall of 45 feet. They carved out the City Hall subdistrict from NSC and altered the setback language to allow 120 feet maximum OR the setback from the basewall. City Hall is actually as diminutive as it is because Computer Sciences Corporation (the original owners that sold to Silicon Labs) didn't want it overpowering the views of their building campus. Block 21 (W / ACL) was originally going to be a third CSC building, but CSC scaled down their plans and the City bought back the ground lease for Block 21.

A bit from the Statesman:

"Developers say they hope to start construction in the next few months on a 74-story tower in downtown Austin's Rainey Street area — a skyscraper that would become the tallest tower in Austin and possibly the tallest in all of Texas,

Lincoln Property Co. and Kairoi Residential are developing the high-rise, which is planned for 98 Red River St., along Waller Creek.

The project's plans call for 352 apartments, 686,000 square feet of office space and a 251-room hotel, said Seth Johnston, a senior vice president with Lincoln Property Co. The hotel brand has not yet been announced.

Johnston said the project planned for 98 Red River has not been officially named yet. More information will be released in the coming weeks, he said.

Johnston said the developers are negotiating a construction loan, but declined to discuss additional financing details or an estimated construction cost for the project. However, a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation lists the project's estimated cost at $520 million."

No financing in place yet? I don't like the sound of that, especially given the current uncertain state of the economy.

They must be confident of the financing with the site prep that has happened along with the filings for construction ROW closures and construction offices on Block 190.

Here's that TDRL filing from last August.

Given the news about financing, does anyone think this is in danger of not happening?

I hate to say it but a little doubt enters my mind when I hear that. And we all know what happens when you can't get the financing you need.

Same. That's a good price for a supertall with almost 3 million square feet.

It is less than I thought for a build with condos and a 5 star hotel, however, I do not think a 5 Star hotel is coming and the residential is rentals. A Lot can be fudged on rentals and who knows what the hotel franchise is adding to the mix.
