We've been saying this area will transform with the stadium along with the existing impact of the Domain-related growth. Now we're seeing it happen. Pretty cool.

Astor Park eat your heart out. And it didn't cost us >$200M in public funding.

Astor Park near downtown Columbus for those who didn't get the reference to the partially publicly funded development that was integral to the Columbus Crew's stadium deal. Pretty meh for something so close to their downtown. The large wooded area just past the stadium doesn't exist - the rendering is hiding industrial lots and surface parking.

The stadium itself is nice, though apparently not nice enough. The Crew's first two matches had announced attendances of 18,939 and 16,116 (out of a stated capacity of 20,371). Season tickets there are still very much available, btw

Not just near downtown, the area is officially part of downtown to hear Crew fans.

The digs are just (mostly) good natured buddying rivalry stuff. But it does provide a very interesting contrast between two stadiums built ~simultaneously.

There's a lot of debate about public funding of stadium projects and their ability to catalyze private development and tax revenues. But I think by any measure Austin hit things out of the park. The NBG area was undoubtedly already on a growth trajectory, but without question the stadium has accelerated it.

Not bad for a tract they were just using for storage. We didn't have to give up any parkland. And we're even getting rent for it.

I'm not willing to call The Domain alone Austin's second downtown, but with Broadmoor/Uptown and all the stuff next to the stadium . . . I'm much more convinced.

IMO that whole area -- Domain + Uptown + McKalla -- is going to need a new name pretty soon.

I think the logic of the UptownATX naming (since nobody will use that) is hoping it would usurp the domains standing as the name for the area. I think when the rail station is in and that development is filled out the area will be referred to as uptown.

Or just log in through the Austin Public Library portal using your library account info

In fact, here's a nice list of library perks:

That's probably the goal, but I think they would settle for having people not refer to their development as "The Domain" considering how ingrained that is at this point. Virtually everyone refers to the stadium as being "at The Domain" as well. It also helps stop the name creep going on around the area, e.g. "domain point". The apartment complexes "modera domain" and "radius at the domain" are both much closer to UptownATX/Broadmoor than they are to the Domain.

The Domain name will probably stick in much the same way the Galleria name tends to define that area of Houston around Westheimer and the 610 loop.

The Domain was started/opened in, what, 2006? It's been around for a while, to the points made above.

Apparently Adelbert's Brewery is closing due to the construction of an office tower on the property. Did we know about this one?

The property is 2314 Rutland Dr #100, Austin, TX 78758

Closing in October

There are 6-8 office/residential/hotel towers planned around Q2 stadium. But I think this would be a new one.

Bummer. One of my favorites. I hope they are able to find another location near by.

It looks like their announcement has been updated to say they are no longer seeking a new location and will be closing permanently. Or maybe I initially misread it?

I feel like that area is chock full of stuff we don't have our arms around or are even aware of.

This is a part of town where throwing up pretty cheap 4-5 story apartments is likely highly profitable given that you are only replacing really really old warehouses.

I do wish the city would put some sort of overlay on the area and encourage local breweries in the ground floor for some sort of incentive. Its become a boon to the cities beer scene and I would hate to lose some of the brewery district forever.
