The new lamps have very intense white LED lights that shine downward.

Give me warm light at any time over those soulless LEDs.

In a house I agree, but on the street the bright white LED are the best. We just had new ones installed in front of our house and love them.

I have no idea how lights have “souls”, that makes no sense. Also, you can have led lights that have a warm light.

I find the LED street lights are a lot better for visibility.

Thanks, I thought the hollow lights at Deloitte Summit were up-lights.
They don't seem to give off a lot of light.

i disagree with LED lights being used on residential streets. they mess with humans internal day/night clocks.

i do think intersections, arterials, and places like that is okay though.

CoV doesn't install upwards facings lights anymore. that whole light pollution thing they are on. if you notice, they have been removing those in almost all instances with ones shining down. the only exception are the Burrard Bridge ones as those are historic. though even with those, you'll notice the upper part is barely lighted with most of the light directed downwards.

the Olympic Village ones predate the rule and the light is pretty much reflected downwards. i am not sure how much light actually goes up; i have never seen them from above.

i personally like these ones, by the Scotia Tower; very airy/unique with like 7 tube-bulbs in them.

I didn't think that the upward facing with reflector style of fixtures were very effective.

I think those used to be the standard lamppost on Granville St from the 1970s transit mall reno.

They would have been there til 2009/10 when the mall was reno'd for the Olympics.

Here they are from a 1970s archives post in the historic photos thread:

All lit up last night for nearby filming.
They've also been cleaning the windows and power washing the metal panels.

Pics by me last night.

The building isn't even done, and it's already in the moving pictures.

The steel "wall" is odd.
It seems too low near the stairs to act as a protective barrier from the drop-off between the sidewalk and the patio and then rises as the sidewalk drops.
Maybe the width of the planter mitigates against that risk?
It also seems dangerous as a "knife-edge".
They've installed a similar low knife-edge wall on the alley side around the vent grilles.
They seem reminiscent of the steel edging around the water features at Telus Garden where they had to [retrofit] glass barriers.

Wow, Homer Street is fast becoming "Little Italy", or a little Italian F&B street: with offerings such as Aquafarina, the future Giovane Caffe, Tutti, Homer Street Cafe and Per Se Social Corner full of Italian fares, one would be spoilt for choice. If only the Italian food hall Eataly were to open up at the renovated Post Office building mall, that picture would be complete.
