This video gives a pretty good overview of the engineering challenges that comes with extensive greenery. They dive into use of trees in skyscrapers at around the 4:40 mark and the challenges at around the 7:30 mark.

I think there's also definitely a tendency for developers to stretch the truth a little bit in the renderings they publish to either gain public support for a project or for pre-sales purposes. Sometimes an architect might just be a little too aspirational too. Regardless, it's definitely important for more buildings to incorporate greenery.
