100% agreed! The city took a big chunk of land with zero tax base and turned it into a cash cow. This ad for Kathie Tovo's mentor sure hasn't aged well...

That's so bad it's comical, until you realize some people were like, "Yeah! That isn't right! I'm voting for her!"

She should be embarrassed

Or she could just say, "I was wrong". Seems like those three words are so hard for most humans to say.

First and foremost, I really like this tower, but that said, it is one wonky building, at least from that angle.

There are built-in tracks in the facade for the window washer to attach to and follow down the curve of the building.

That girthy curve

Lol. Sorry, had wine earlier. Seriously though, the fact that there is not one single damn jagged edge with that curve gives me so much joy! More curvy buildings for Austin!

I'm just glad they didn't have a cut-out with a balcony right in the middle of the curve. Someone would probably design that...

In some of the original designs there were cut outs. They would've gone the whole length of the building on the curved side. There were trees/plants in them.

It's funny how like 50% of renderings make the building look like one from Singapore with significant amounts of greenery. Then somehow that component is always cut from the actual building. I'm not even sure why, actually. How expensive is it to grow some plants? I suppose getting / maintaining the soil up there is difficult?

This video gives a pretty good overview of the engineering challenges that comes with extensive greenery. They dive into use of trees in skyscrapers at around the 4:40 mark and the challenges at around the 7:30 mark.

I think there's also definitely a tendency for developers to stretch the truth a little bit in the renderings they publish to either gain public support for a project or for pre-sales purposes. Sometimes an architect might just be a little too aspirational too. Regardless, it's definitely important for more buildings to incorporate greenery.
