it's still the strangest thing that they had to build block 36 around that billboard! Too bad they couldn't work something out.

That bike trail has quite the kink in it too there with the utility box and street light squeezing it.

Maybe it's just the angle of the photo...

I need to upload them from my camera, but Plaza Stalitto is looking pretty fleshed out. Nice little park.

I'm not a fan of Block 36. It feels rushed/forced or whatever you want to call it, but every time we drive by it I just can't get into that. Being right next to I-35 in a low rise, that horrible billboard and the bike path looking like an after thought. I just think we can do better.

it does. It's all kinda janky thru there. It was on the other side of the rail and then shifted over so it's a more of a straight shot under I 35.
Seems like the old lanes will be pedestrian but it's not marked well yet so lots of bike/ped conflicts! But I'm sure it will get solved.

Reminds me of a few years back when this new signage went up at the old Walker Tire Company next to Crestview Station.

This article is SA focused but the issue is state wide.
I suppose that would include Austin too. :-/

Tax breaks for developers under scrutiny in San Antonio, Texas capitol

https://saheron.com/public-facility-corporations-debate/

Texas legislators are considering a handful of bills that would abolish or restrict the use of public facility corporations, or PFCs—a tool intended to create affordable housing, but that has been scrutinized for depriving public entities of millions of dollars in property tax revenue in San Antonio, and other Texas cities.

Ah, that's unfortunate actually. I know the view from inside is probably crap, but I've always liked the look of that building. Believe it or not, along with the Unversity Towers that was demolished last year, and the Castilian in West Campus, the Medical Park Tower was one of Austin's first high rises outside of downtown. And it was the first outside of the main skyline. It was a big deal when it was built in 1967. It also would have been only the 5th high rise north of MLK at a time when MLK was still alive actually.

A technical improvement, but I always liked the look of that building. I was born somewhere on that campus.

Oh wow, I had no idea....but that makes sense with the 60's design. I am bummed as well, those panels always gave it style and class.

I agree. I think for the people for whom being in this building is a daily routine this is a massive improvement, for those of us looking at it, its a real shame.
