No doubt the Strathcona park situation is really bad for the area and a source of a lot of this crime.

I'm referring to posters who think all of central Vancouver is now a complete shithole.

This is key. A lot of pot shots about downtown being a total disaster zone come from people living in the burbs.

I have a single female friend who has lived on the downtown peninsula for three decades, last 15 in Yaletown/Downtown South. She says she no longer feels safe on the streets there when alone.

People can try and dismiss these concerns all they like but they're real.

Less people on the street definitely makes it feel more unsafe, and it probably is. Thankfully that's a short term issue.

Drug Use, particularly in the DTES, is causing pain to the entire healthcare industry, made worse during the pandemic.

https://globalnews.ca/news/7678183/bc-paramedic-crisis/

Due to all the instances of drug overdoses, long delays can be detrimental to other non drug-related patients when they cannot get to the ER on time. Therefore drug use is not a victimless crime: it is also negatively impacting on the health of many of our residents as well, particularly seniors citizens. I still can't understand why we are so lenient to drug use and its associated crimes (soon to be decriminalized due to dumb policies).

I can't imagine how terrifying this must have been for the woman to be stalked around downtown and worried the creep would be follow her back to her home. Way too many people with issues unsupervised in the downtown core. Kudos to the guys at the skate park for scaring him off:

That's a ridiculous and scarily long distance to have been followed.
From the Dunsmuir & Granville Shoppers to International Village there aren't many places to duck into. She could have gone into T&T Supermarket or International Village Mall if it was open or through the Stadium Station if she had a Compass card (in and out would you be charged?)

You don't get charged if you leave within 21 minutes.

What sort of strange sequence that she would let him follow her for so long, and he kept it up for so long while being filmed in the middle of the day with so many people around. She’s being followed , but at the same time she like, wow this is some good footage! Maybe staged? Wouldn’t surprise me.

I expect many single woman wouldn't want to stop and confront an unknown man following them.

Lots of people start recording when they are confronted by those kind of idiots. When in doubt blame the victim.

This is a really bad take. You're part of the problem if you really believe this.

This sort of thing has happened before. I mean come on. You would be shocked if this was staged?

And yes I really believe that people do stage these sorts of events. Remember Jussi what’s his face.

I don't, and it seems like you don't either.

Women have not been taken seriously since the dawn of time, it's led to unknown numbers of rapes and murders.

Nothing to suggest this is staged.

Soon after she uploaded the video, a bunch of other photos/reports of the same guy following women were posted. Not only that, she seemed very shook up when talking to those skaters. She was obviously scared.

I just find it strange she would let the guy follow her for 40 minutes before going to people for help.

I just find it strange one would be so fixated on a conspiracy theory instead of going for help.
