I love the South Bay beach communities and beaches (I've always been partial to Hermosa and Redondo), and I love PV beaches. Always have.

I always find photos of the LA area interesting, such as many of the ones in sopas' thread, and I recall the threads you did in past yrs that were unmistakably 'southern california'. Photos that give a good sense of actually being there. Certain angles, subj matter & wide shots tend to do that.

by contrast, i notice a lot of picture books of cities...sometimes known as coffee table bks....sold at Barnes & noble don't do that quite as well.

It's interesting how many other parts of the country...& world too....have certain neighborhoods that give off the same look & feel. Trendy food, local eateries, ppl out relaxing & murals are indistinguishable from one another all over the US. So it's glimpses of certain things like palm trees in the background that make a pic recognizable as, a-ha, that's LA!

The climate in socal supports certain types of plant life not sustainable in colder or hotter areas. there's also a certain friendly or Mediterranean look about some of the architecture in the LA area whose counterpart is different elsewhere. of course, southern europe is the hub of places full of a friendly, inviting look.

I saw a SSP thread a few months ago that showed images of the beach areas of long island, New York. Weather & culture do make a big difference to a place's vibe.

Thanks citywatch, I too find a lot of those picture books of cities kind of boring. Perhaps one day I’ll do another photo tread, it’s just hard now being married and having a 3 1/2 year old son.

Sopas ej, I see you visited Long Beach, you capture a few spots I would go to when I lived there. In fact we took a drive down to Long Beach Saturday to get my wife out of the house, hef farther died on Tuesday and she needed get out.

The city has changed so rapidly in the 6 years since I moved away, specifically downtown and the surrounding area. I can’t believe all of the development, it’s looking good. I always say if Long Beach wasn’t so close to LA, it would most certainly be a boutique city in the USA. It already has a different culture and vibe separate from LA. Thanks for sharing

@citywatch
Thanks for the positive comments. I'm not artistic or a pro at photography by any means; I just like to take pictures of things.

I thought to create a photo thread of the places in LA that I personally like, places I see all the time, places that have sentimental value for me, and even the mundane things, like my commute and the Circle K near my work.
Hence the title "My Los Ángeles." At first I thought to limit the pics to places within LA City limits, but I figured I cross city boundaries all the time, so I may as well include other cities within LA County. I'm making it a point not to take pictures of places outside of LA County, though... with this pandemic going on, I'm not really apt to venture outside of LA County anyway. Not that my partner and I were going into Orange County often anyway, but some time ago we decided to avoid/boycott OC because of all the anti-maskers and "Open up!" protesters there.

@ChrisLA
I love Long Beach. Yes, it has its own identity and vibe and of course is a separate big city from LA. Back in the 90s I went to school at Cal State Long Beach (after transferring out of UC Santa Barbara, which I actually hated at the time) and I loved going to CSULB. It was attending school there that made me really get to know Long Beach and fall in love with it. Apart from Belmont Shore, Broadway was a big hangout for me too, especially that coffee house called "The Library"---hehe and I also liked going to some of the gay bars on Broadway. I've always known about Long Beach as a child because my mom worked at the VA Hospital there, and sometimes when she needed to go to her credit union, I would tag along. And yes, Long Beach has changed a lot over the years.

I'm very sorry to hear about your wife's father; my condolences to the both of you and your family.

I usually am not a fan of street art but they add so much to LA somehow.

Glad to see you are not against wearing a mask. I have so many relatives in LA so with some personal connection, maybe you can understand my concern.

I was planning to go to Vietnam this spring until coronavirus happened. Maybe in the summer or later in the year I would have gone to LA as well. I really miss the place and your photos remind me of that.

No, I'm not against wearing a mask at all.

Yeah, my partner and I were gonna go to Sri Lanka this year, but obviously those plans are shot. Maybe next year, or the year after...

Yeah, we say "Police Station"... or Police Department, or Sheriff's Station or Sheriff's Department (depending on the agency/jurisdiction). I remember a NYC transplant I worked with told me and another co-worker a story where he said he ended up "going to the precinct." My co-worker had a look on her face like she didn't know what he was talking about.

You nailed it, 1999-2004 body style. This was the last Mustang where they tried to make the design forward looking. In 2005, the first retro designed Mustang came out, and they;ve been tweaking that style even since (because it's great ).

I thought I'd take a bunch of pictures on my lunch break from work today (Tuesday 8.18.20) but with the heat wave we've been going through it was too damn hot to be walking around. I just took a few...

More random photos, taken this evening, Wednesday 8.19.2020.

During the toilet paper hoarding period early in the COVID-19 pandemic, all you had to do was go to a Mexican supermarket, and there was toilet paper available.

Some years ago a friend of mine told me that I just had to try this place. My partner and I finally did this evening... and honestly, it was just alright. We prefer fōnuts on 3rd Street, a much better place. And healthier. We probably won't be going back to Donut Friend again. We don't eat donuts often.

You see these around LA here and there. Not as common as other states' plates.

I know to steer clear of drivers with these plates. They leave so much space between themselves and the car ahead of them.

These are fairly common plates in LA. I figured they're either transplants, or Californians that moved back and haven't re-registered their cars with the state of California yet. They can't be tourists, because often their cars are too clean.
