I went there today. Good, healthy food and lots of plant-based options. I will definitely go back.

HIDDEN UNDERGROUND, HELLO GOODBYE BAR IS A TRULY UNIQUE BAR EXPERIENCE
Howard Chai | December 6, 2019

The Hello Goodbye Bar is located on 1120 Hamilton Avenue, in Vancouver’s Yaletown.

If you look for it on Google Maps, however, you won’t be able to see it. Even in Street View, all you’ll see is the Yaletown Liquor Store and Barber & Co.

If you look hard enough, though, you’ll come across an unmarked door. Through that unmarked door, there’s a somewhat hidden stairwell. And it’s down that stairwell where you will find the bar known as Hello Goodbye.

...

Best of all, Hello Goodbye has Happy Hour, which runs from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm on Thursdays and Fridays. (They’re only open from Thursdays to Saturdays.)

I've been many times - very cool. Just walk into the alcove for Barber and Co, open the door on the left and walk down. Definitely worth it.

It's been open for about 2 years. Busy on weekend nights, but not crazy. Quieter in the week (no surprise) and before 10.

As for "hidden bars", I like Narrow Lounge, but it's location is not great, and supposedly they are now on a monthly lease

The white tent covering the Browns Crafthouse at Main and 16th has finally come off, and I have to say the new building looks good. Nice paint job and signage on the exterior of the building, and a large patio area along Main. There are large garage type doors that open up to the patio area, so it will be a good summertime spot. I probly won't go there much, but that corner certainly looks a lot nicer now.

There is another major renovation happening at 8th and Main, where Kam's Bakery and Restaurant was. No idea what's going in, but I know that a Mexican restaurant called Fayuca, formerly in Yaletown, is moving to Main Street. Maybe this is the undisclosed location.

Joey Shipyards in North Van is opening in January, and I must say the place looks pretty impressive. Lots of pictures in the Daily Hive story, and a preview of the spectacular view from the 2 levels of patio space...

The Globe & Mail-Hydra saga continues. The restaurant purchased a full page ad in the paper slamming the critic, and now the Globe is having to admit it should never have accepted the ad. Maybe Hydra should have just put the money used in the advert into fixing their problems in the kitchen!

We need critics now more than ever
Sylvia Stead
PUBLISHED DECEMBER 24, 2019
UPDATED 22 HOURS AGO

A Vancouver restaurant, clearly unhappy with a review by The Globe and Mail’s B.C. food critic Alexandra Gill, purchased an ad in Saturday’s Globe slamming her personally and professionally.

And unfortunately, The Globe published it due to human error, a complete failure of the advertising vetting procedure.

Critics perform an important service to readers. Beholden to no one, they give you their expert opinion on whether a movie, restaurant, television show, book, etc., are worth your time and money. That independence of opinion whether from columnists or critics is a core principle of good journalism...

...The Globe has reviewed the oversight in advertising and tightened its processes to ensure it doesn’t happen again. It will also give the money for the ad to charity.

The ad expressed anger that the reviewer would reserve under an assumed name. This is common practice for all restaurant reviewers, so they can have the same experience the reader would. The reviewer and, by extension, The Globe, pays for all meals. Otherwise, how could you be independent?..

I saw that ad. It was brutal.
Strangely, the restaurant also had a "counterpoint" ad in the same edition of Vancouver Mag that had the bad review, as if they were provided with an advance copy of the bad review.

That was in the bottom half of the full page ad.
