My apologies for camera drifting, not paying enough attention to filming. The speaker (the founder of Westbank) had most of my attention.

Here are a few pics I took of the event along with a vid I made. This area is going to become a lot busier!

I really hope they can make the area under the bridge happen, it would be great to see Vancouver with a less traditional urban space like that.

This is one of the best downtown urban spaces created during the last decade. The other notable ones are Jack Poole Plaza (Convention Centre) and the Art Gallery Plaza. Really love it for the following reasons:

1. Iconic and tall residential tower
2. Ample retail around (Can do with more, as per the future Pinnacle tower)
3. Magnificent art display
4. University/offices
5. Covered space for all occasions under the bridge
6. Close to the waterfront
7. Serving a once dead neighbourhood

With them lit up, the underside of Granville Bridge with the columns look like a great hall in a cathedral or castle. Note that the viaduct columns (Art Deco) are even better designed than the Granville bridge ones, so again I feel that it is extremely dumb for the City to decide to take those down rather than utilizing them like at the Vancouver House.

Viaduct column:

The chandelier was supposed to be spinning twice a day already, but Westbank says it’s still being tweaked. It’s now scheduled to start working by the end of next week, at which point the chandelier is expected to drop and spin twice a day at noon at 9 p.m.

Autostrada is opening at Vancouver House. Looks like it is on Beach at the base of the condo tower.

Thanks for the update. I noticed another retailer had advertising up on one of the smaller office buildings (the one closest to the tower). Looked like a coffee mug but couldn't see a name while driving by

That rust staining on the metal panels on the podium isn't encouraging

The staining below the awkwardly exposed drainage pipe?

Yes. (Thanks for posting the pic)

Edit* I know this isn't finished yet and it will be fixed, I'm just thinking long term

PS here's the spot without cladding.

Looking at the pic above, again, I think you can even see the pipe uncovered in the ceiling of the balcony
(exposed strapping).

The gas station is a very cool design, that would be an awesome building to refurbish and turn into a bar or retro diner kind of place. I know the area isn't really made for that (it would fit more on Main or Commercial), but it would still be cool.

There is signage up for London Drugs, Momofuku, and Autostrada. Fresh St. is moving along quick, lots of stuff up inside already for them

Yeah it could be a great opportunity for someone with vision (and some cash)!

Literally took the idea straight out of my head!

Was also thinking bar (possibly with more of a beach or retro theme) or Greek restaurant or even craft beer, etc...

It would add a nice dash of texture to the area.
