You have not flown from there in a while. You need to be there 1 1/2 to 2 hours in advance. The timings are out of control of the airport and are governed by the airlines, CATSA and Transport Canada. This is for most airline regardless of the airport with some exceptions. i.e. Toronto ask you be at the airport 3 hrs before flights to the US.
Domestic check in closes 45 minutes before the scheduled departure.
International and US check in closes 1 hour before the scheduled departure.
Online check-in closes 60 minutes prior to departure.
Oversized / Overweight baggage drop: Closes 90 minutes prior to departure
Boarding gate closes 10 to 30 minutes prior to departure depending on the airline. Late travellers will be denied boarding. No exceptions.
At YHM
Westjet 10 minutes
Swoop 15 Minutes
Norwegian 20 minutes
Sunwing will print the cut off time on your boarding pass.
Air Transat (Everywhere) International flight: 30 minutes before departure.
Domestic flight: 15 minutes before departure.
Everyday for almost every flight, at every airport, people show up late and are denied check in or boarding.
This is from one of the airlines and sums it up perfectly.
"Passenger must have their boarding passes (printed or electronic version), baggage tags and baggage dropped off before check-in counter closure. Passengers arriving for check-in after that time may be denied boarding."
If you have checked in on line, paid all of the fee's, have just a carry on or personal bag, printed your own boarding pass, there is no line up at screening and screening does not send you for a manual search or search your carry on bags, and you do sum sprinting, you can show up at screening 20 to 25 minutes before your flight. And that is after you park your vehicle and walk in or your ride (Friend, Cab, Uber etc) drops you off at the airport in time baring any traffic problems or the bus is not late.
The new reality is there is several layers of bureaucracy and security that will slow you down at an airport even Hamilton. Each one is an entity of its own, generally underfunded and understaffed, and neither you or that airport can influence or control.
