I heard from the street vendors at Wellington/Metcalfe that there's a building which is set to go up on the SW corner of that intersection (where the Rideau Club used to be and the "plaza" of 90 Wellington is currently). She said that construction might start in the next 2-5 years. I knew that a building there was always in the long term plans for the Parliamentary Precinct, but I hadn't heard of anything so immediate.
Anyone heard anything about this?

Whatever eventually gets built there had better be good. It will have one of the best views on Earth, directly in front of Parliament. I would love to see a cultural institution of some sort that is annexed to the old US Embassy.

Intriguing, I wonder if it will they gut the existing building with the heritage facade? I hope they preserve anything historical. But I agree, it's such a prominent location that it had better be the most spectacular building we see yet.
They could build a pretty substantial museum complex/info centre by combining the current heritage façade building, the plaza, U.S. Embassy and parking lot on the other side.
A new 20-storey federal office building might be in the cards for the Vieux-Hull.
The location is the corner of Montcalm and Wellington, across the street from the hotel that is part of the Terrasses de la Chaudière complex. Currently the site is occupied by a parking lot and a furniture-décor store called Vice-Versa. Funny how I noticed that Vice-Versa was having a closing or moving sale recently.

I like what they are proposing. Multivesco seems to be keen on working with the community even if they don't need to. Adding an art piece to the "Pôle Culturel" and offering up the underground parking to the Théâtre de l'île so that the City can remove the surface parking lot along the Ruisseau are some great initiatives. Hoping this goes through. Looking forward to seeing the design.
