104 Avenue Feeder Watermain Relocation

A 600 mm watermain currently runs down the centre of 104 Avenue, under what will be the future LRT track. The section of that watermain between City Parkway and 144 Street is being relocated now, prior to construction of LRT.

A 900 mm storm sewer pipe runs down the centre of 104 Avenue under what will be the future LRT track. The section of pipe between 148 and 150 Streets is being relocated now, prior to construction of LRT.

That is one of the TTC's old street car lines, not a new LRT station. I believe they have been operating like that for over 150 years (since back when the street cars were pulled by horses). The system proposed for Surrey would have proper stations, not these archaic stops. I'm not saying I support the proposed system but fearmongering just weakens your cause. Reading this forum one would think we were in Salem Massachusetts.

These stations are not even barricaded. I didn’t see any stations that are fenced off from vehicle traffic; an idiot on an 18-wheeler might skid and crash into the station.

The point is that Surrey's light rail is in a traffic-separated median, so if one wants to point out how much LRT 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵, best stick to videos of LRV collisions in medians (of which there's plenty lying around the internet). Linking every traffic incident that happens to have a tram in it does not help the conversation one bit and borders on herd/mob mentality - the tram above wasn't even responsible for the crash!

It's a long weekend, isn't it? Who cares what time people are logged in, so long as they have a good point to make? I for one - and I'm guessing you too, on occasion - have been up much later than 2am.

I didn’t say that every accident involving a tram is caused by a tram. What I’m saying is that idiot drivers (like the one in the video) will disobey the rules and will create inconvenience to everyone adjacent to the incident. Since they will have to ban some left turns on 104th once they get the train running, there will always be one dumb driver that will turn while the train approaches. I guess the driver has to bolt home to go to the bathroom.

Hipocrisy hurts sometimes. What else can you do when you have nothing to do? Unless you have an exam the very next day, but school hasn’t started yet, so who gives?

Given that Horgan's positioned himself as the local/mayors' premier, I'd think he'd support the decision. The NDP seemed to emphasize local autonomy rather than the LRT specifically, so I think they'd be on board provided the rest of the mayors are too.

And with Trudeau, I don't think he really cares what kind of transit runs in Surrey haha. As long as the money stays more or less the same, which I think estimates show it would, I think he'd support it as well.

Not much. They committed to improving transit - not the tech that powers it. They'll follow up with the promised money if there's a plan ready to go.

Different place and different era, but when a newly elected city council in Ottawa cancelled their 2006 LRT plan, the province and feds punished the city financially when the current system (more of a light metro) was proposed by only committing money based on preliminary estimates that didn't take inflation into account. As a result the city had to find ways to save money on the plan and contribute more than the 1/3 of the cost initially budgeted.

TransLink is now putting out a call to prospective builders to bid on the Surrey-Newton-Guildford line with construction beginning as soon as 2020. The transit authority says they hope to narrow down a short list and award a contract next year.

Keep in mind the Evergreen Line went through the same process - depending on the mayor that is elected in the next election, there may be another twist in the discussion.
