Is there any way to tell how long that job has been posted? I notice the announcement has no date, but I'm thinking if it's been there for a few months, it might not have anything to do with HQ2.

From what I see it's not specific to only Newark. The Job Details say "New York Area, NY, Newark, New Jersey, New Jersey, United States"

Could be a sign of HQ2 or another big project in the NYC area, or it could be an HQ2-related job that they're advertising in New York but will basically be a national position.

They are probably considering applicants who live in the greater New York area, but I think it's pretty clear that the job is Newark specific.

Audible is already based in Newark. I have no doubt it's a opening with that division and likely completely unrelated to HQ2.

There's another job listing for a "Neighborhood Making Strategic Advisor".

This advisor would "Develop and drive urban neighborhood growth strategies" and "Provide thought leadership and guidance on the planning, development and implementation of commercial, retail and residential location strategies."

Which could seem pretty bang on for HQ2. However, the applicant will "Participate in consortium to promote development within Newark."

Additionally both the 'neighborhood maker' and the 'urban planning director' job listings are both for the Audible group. So it looks Audible might be expanding its footprint in Newark, but only Audible - for the moment.

Yes, Audible was the company I was thinking of, not AWS.

And they are in fact undergoing a significant expansion in Newark separate from HQ2.

Given articles such as below, it makes sense why those positions have been created.

Yes, I noticed it was under Audible, but I think that's a head fake. Audible isn't really that big to warrant an urban planner for itself. I also noticed that neither position actually mentions Audible at all in the job descriptions.

These are initiatives that they would hire outside consultants to handle. Amazon is only hiring an urban planning team for some significant development. It could be something else, but HQ2 is the biggest thing Amazon has got planned right now.

I just looked, and both jobs are also listed on the Audible Careers page too. So if it is actually a fake out, they're really going all in with it.

I highly doubt Amazon would engage in such antics.

Besides it being highly unethical to misrepresent where and in what role potential employees would be working in, it could even lead to legal issues as well (Audible and Amazon are still recognized as separate legal organizations, even if one owns the others.

There is no official announcement, but it seems that all of the sites they’ve visited in the past few months have been in urban locations. Personally my money is still on DC (but not Northern VA).
