I'm really looking forward to seeing this go up. In terms of size, this will be our most substantial office tower and will significantly contribute to the skyline. Hopefully this means we are reaching the next level in future office development DT aside from what we already know is in the works. It would be nice to have an office tower surpass 600 feet.

I'm impressed with the amount of clean-up they've already done. But just remember that that's a big hole in the ground. Foundation work takes some time before they even start rising out of the ground. Be patient. I'm looking forward to watching this rise too, so get your cameras out and keep Austin weird.

As long as demand stays high that will happen. The parcels of land are reaching that point where supply is dwindling and they'll have to build taller on smaller lots.

This building is truly exceptional. It will be the best tower built in Texas since the Pennzoil building in Houston which - I think - might have served as its inspiration. Can't wait.

I knew they were jumping right into construction as soon as they imploded Ashbel Hall, they cleared the rubble very quickly. At 543 and being in the part of DT that is higher than the Waterfront District, it's going to significantly stand out in both height and size.

LOL I can think of multiple nicer buildings. Frost Austin, Frost San Antonio, Pier 1 HQ in Ft. Worth, among others.

I mean, the design is good. I like that it'll be something different for Austin...but something different. Eh. Maybe you haven't heard of a place called Houston? There are several towers with similar designs just in Houston alone.

Still, I think it's going to be a really nice tower in Austin. I also am expecting it'll be lit pretty spectacularly. The angled glass, the crown, the balconies and the improvement it's making on that block. I think overall it's going to be better for downtown and the skyline.

This is my favorite graphic so far. It's one of the best illustrations IMO for showing how this will effect the skyline. It's significant, and from all directions.

Its going to dwarf the surrounding buildings and add some gleaming exterior which is lacking in that section. Look how small the Chase tower looks next to it. Although I really liked the original proposal for this spot, this may be one of my favorite additions to the skyline. And the 11 or 12 floors of parking look nicely blended in with the rest of the exterior. No cheap alternatives like...

I've noticed a phenomenon where I tend to like the towers that are oriented north/south more than the ones that are east/west.

Seaholm Residences > The Bowie

Northshore > 500 West 2nd

360 Condos > Ashton

The Monarch > Four Season Residences

JW Marriott > Fairmont

Colorado Tower > 5th & Colorado

Austin Proper > Third + Shoal

I think the only east/west tower I've favored the most so far has been the W Hotel & Residences.

Aloft is east/west if you like it.

The Avenue will be east/west as well (or maybe just a square, honestly).

Despite loving both, The Independent > Austonian is a good example of one E-W oriented tower being better than its N-S oriented peer... in my opinion.
