New rental building would be the first in PoMo in 31 years

PHOTO CONTRIBUTED A rendering of a new 142-unit market rental building in Port Moody being proposed by Woodbridge Properties

Port Moody “badly needs” rental housing and the city can’t afford not to allow a plan for a new 142-unit rental building on St. Johns Street to be built, says the CEO of Landlord BC, David Hutniak.
Developer Woodbridge Properties presented its proposal at a meeting on Sept. 5 for the six-storey apartment building it wants to build on a .83-acre site it owns on the south side of St. Johns just west of Moray Street to the city’s community planning advisory committee.

The first residential highrise in Coquitlam’s Maillardville neighbourhood is one step closer to construction.

Monday evening, council voted in favour of third reading of the project, which would see a 21-storey, 147-unit tower with four ground-level commercial units, second-floor office space and residential space located at Blue Mountain Street and the Lougheed Highway.

I like The Hensley. will add some nice variety to the area. It still seems respectful to the 70's and 80's towers to the West.

Makes me wonder. If they used the same quality finishes as market housing they would probably have a ton of money left over that they could then build more housing units with

I saw that building go up last summer when I was doing work at Richmond Centre for a weeks and could not figure out what it was. Thanks for helping me sleep at night!

And of course, great to hear about social housing going up in Richmond.

Thanks for the head's up on the Lansdowne Mall redevelopment plan. Ambitious plan. Good to see so much office density landing in the vicinity of Lansdowne Station. It would be fantastic if in the course of design development there could be physical, direct connectivity between the station and the Landsdowne Mall redevelopment office complex/mall.

I'd guess it will be at least 2020 before shovels are in the ground on anything. 15 years for 24 towers = 1.6 towers per year, not to mention all of the non-tower developments. Considering that it will take a few years to construct each that means something like 4 towers under construction at the same time for 15 straight years.

West Vancouver seeks consultants to advise on what can be built at 'Cypress Village'

Joanne Lee-YoungJOANNE LEE-YOUNG

Published on: December 29, 2017 | Last Updated: December 29, 2017 1:36 PM PST

The vision is a mountainside village in West Vancouver, with retail shops and restaurants sitting above the Upper Levels highway near the first switchback on Cypress Bowl Road as it winds its way up to the ski slopes.

It would be something like a smaller Whistler, only known as Cypress Village.

The concept has been around for a long time, but now the District of West Vancouver is seeking consultants to help with one of the first stages of making it a reality.

The district is looking for someone to figure out the transferring of building rights from one chunk of land to another, as well as assessing future transportation options, amenities, schools and community services, according to a July 2017 staff report to council about a “preconditions stage.”

Mainly, the job is “looking at land values to determine the zoning and finding a balance of residential units that connects with green space,” says Donna Powers, a spokesperson for the district.
